Announcement of Ashby Prize winners.
Prof. Jinn-Yuh Hsu (徐進鈺) of NTU’s Department of Geography was awarded the Ashby Prize 2018 by the leading journal in humanities and geography, Environment and Planning A: Economy and Space, for a co-authored paper titled, “A Tale of Two Industrial Zones: A Geopolitical Economy of Differential Development in Ulsan, South Korea, and Kaohsiung, Taiwan.” This paper details the crucial role of geopolitics in shaping differential industrial development and economic growth patterns in South Korea and Taiwan. The other two collaborators of the study were Dr. Dong-Wan Gimm of Seoul National University and Prof. Jim Glassman of the University of British Columbia.
The Ashby Prize was established by the journal Environment and Planning A in 1990. The prize is awarded annually to the most innovative piece among the nearly 150 papers published in the year. To date, many of the award winners have become leading scholars of their fields, including Ash Amin, Noel Castree, and Allen Scott.
